USB Connection Issues

(ZXP3)

There could be a few different reasons why you are experiencing USB Connection Issues with your ZXP3 printer. This guide will walk you through what you should do to fix that or at the very least troubleshoot what the true issue is.

Multiple ZXP3 printers on one computer

This is a common issue when operating ZXP3 printers. Unlike the ZC300, when you plug in a new ZXP3, if you already have an entry for that printer in your devices and printers it will add it to a drop-down list instead of creating a new entry.

On a computer running Windows 10, the steps to get to the screen shown on the right are as follows:

Here we can see that there are multiple ZXP3s to choose from. This is because when multiple ZXP3s are connected to a computer, they will not have separate entries in the "Devices and Printers" screen. Instead, they will be housed in this drop-down list under the "Zebra ZXP Series 3 USB Card Printer" selection.

If you have the wrong printer selected, you will not be able to print cards or connect to the printer.

You can tell whether you have the wrong printer selected in the drop-down by looking at the "Printer status" value (Circled)

If this value is "Offline" it means that the printer you have selected is not the one that is connected to the computer.

If the printer status says "Idle" you have selected the correct printer.

Ensure that USB hardware is not defective

If selecting the correct printer was not the issue, we next want to check the data cable (USB cord) and make sure that it is in good working condition.

If data cables are wrapped too tightly around the power brick, the cords can become frayed and unusable.

*If a cable breaks in a similar way to the photo on the right, it also presents a fire hazard so do not continue to use them.*

Try swapping out the data cables to make sure that the cords are not the issue.

If the issue persists you will want to try reinstalling drivers and firmware on your ZXP3. The link to that guide is below.

If this is also unsuccessful you will want to send the printer to Mission, attention to "Noah Edmonds" and include a filled-out Equipment Issue Report Form
