KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION
Scheduling
Kindergarten and preschool grad photos will take additional time. Schedule 1 class every 15 minutes with 2 photographers, and 30 minutes per class with 1 photographer.
Gear Preparation
A Spring PP Unit
(4 or more) Caps & tassels according to the color the school has chosen
(6 or more) Gowns to match
(3) PVC “Diplomas” with ribbon
Enough coffee filters for each student to replace under the caps
Wet wipes & any disinfecting supplies
The TNJ
IMPORTANT: Do not forget the coffee filters. The coffee filters are used to prevent the spread of lice and are placed in the caps. You can stock up at any Sam’s Club or Costco. You will need one coffee filter for each student being photographed with a cap and gown. Throw away after one use.
Cap & Gown Supply
Caps & Gowns can be ordered at herffjones.com or jostens.com
When ordering, pay attention to the multiple size options
Be sure to purchase a Cap, Gown, and Tassel to match
Order enough to be able to bring at least 6 gowns (varying in size) to each shoot
Make sure to steam your gowns in between shoots regularly to keep them wrinkle free
The Dorian Diploma Prop
Cut a 1" PVC pipe into 12 inch long pieces
Sand to remove impurities or splinters on the surface
Use rubbing alcohol or a magic eraser to remove any printed words
Hot glue or super glue a nice ribbon (blue, red, or black) in a bow tie around the pipe
KGRAD Setup
The set up is identical to our Spring/PP set up
Refer to the Spring Training Manual and Spring Set Up Video
The difference is timing due to the wardrobe change and/or use of the diploma prop
You may need to lower both of your Main Lights and camera height about 1 foot to match Kindergartners height
Posing Tips
The most important piece with posing KGRADs using diplomas, caps, and tassels, is to remain consistent throughout each shoot
All diplomas should be tilted the same way, all tassels should be on the same side of the face, and all held caps should be in the same hand within each school
Your first student should be posed the exact same way as your last student
Too high
Too low
Just right
Diploma Position
Instruct Kindergartners to hold the diploma at their bellybutton
Too flat
Hole showing
Too vertical
Better
Just right
Perfect
Diploma Tilt
Diplomas should be angled or tilted across the lower chest
Tilt the diploma angled from top shoulder down to opposite hip
The bow on the diploma should be faced towards the camera
Hands are on the top on and bottom of the diploma
If the student doesn't angle the diploma top towards their body, the hollowness of the PVC pipe may be visible
Awkward
Perfect!
Hand Placement
Ask the student to gently wrap their fingers around the diploma on top and bottom
Holding the Cap
Some students may have hairstyles that don't work well with a cap
Have them hold their diploma in one hand from the bottom, while holding their cap from the bottom with their other hand
This pose might need a little extra hands on help

Certificates
Some schools provide certificates to each of their promotion students
This will appear as a service item in the account
Additional certificates can be ordered online using the student's access key
PLEASE NOTE: Students placed in ZNA do not receive service items; including a certificate. If a student does not appear in the TNJ, make every effort to find their teacher rather than placing them in a ZNA folder.
